What is VR, MR and XR??

What is VR?
Here is a schematic poster developed by Dr Hafizur Rahaman and Erik Champion explaining which types of interaction can be explored with different types of headsets.

Before you learn XR, I suggest reading this article by Professor Mark Billinghurst:
He is a pioneer of augmented reality (AR), and this article neatly explains some of the distinctions between VR, AR, and XR. After that article I suggest you read the Wired article "Get Ready to Hear a Lot More About 'XR'" or (as the Wired article asks for a login), try the Unity Glossary article.
I recommend XR because it does not worry about if something virtual is mixed, augmented or totally virtual. XR does all the background configuring for you so it runs on most devices (phones, computers, head mounted displays), and it can run in your internet browser (especially Firefox and Chrome) without you needing to download special software!

Presence in VR
https://www.vrfocus.com/2017/11/why-is-presence-important-for-virtual-reality/ “Presence is the magic of virtual reality (VR), the feeling that you’re actually in the virtual world. Presence will cause the user to suspend disbelief and believe they are in the virtual environment, reacting to stimuli as if they were in the real world. It’s the holy grail, the purpose of VR.”
